Brickfield Keng Hiong Restaurant

Turn up to Jalan Tun sambathan from the volvo interchange along the federal highway. walk straight pass through the police quater and u will notice this row of single story wooden houses on your left hand. There are a total of 4 restaurant along this row of the old wooden house and this one is one of my regular, if i happen to be around brickfield.

Mind you, u walk into these restaurant and u will be able to see the pin-up on the wall, which tells u that celebrities like 林吉祥, 杨阳, 方太, 林良实,吴猛达 also been to this restaurant. so... it suppose to be GOOD, right?

Good and again, cheap. This restaurant is famous for it's fish head/fish tail with steam ginger. too bad that i didn't snap any picture last time when i had one.

the other specialty includes the iron fist chicken 铁公鸡, pan fried osyter with egg.

and one thing worth mentioned about is the soup. It's the cantonese soup, but a bit different from those that we usually get outside. I suspect the octopus they used in the soup had been BBQ to give the soup a bit of smoky flavour. Give it a try. I personally feel it will be a 'love' it or 'hate' it thing.

PJ Taman Sea Teochew Bittergourd Restaurant

Believe it or not.. A chinese restaurant that specialized in bittergourd???

This restaurant is located in Taman Sea, and has been one of my favorite of late. Nice food and cheap. yep, cheap, damn cheap if you talking about KL and Pj standard.

They serve everything u can imagine and with bittergourd in there. Highly recommended are stir fried bittergourd with pork ribs, bittergourd with clam and their bittergourd soup.

A hearty meal for 2 (2 dishes + 1 soup) normally cost less than RM35.

Ya, they even serve bittergourd juice. haha, it might not be as bitter as what u think. They have added in sour plum and honey into the juice, and it just taste refreshing. nice.

Eating here always makes me eat more, since bittergourd is highly regard as good to body health, and don't have guilty feeling for eating more :)

one last word, they also serve some nice teochew style food, like the teochew yam desert, 3 egg yolk steam egg...

direction: travel along LDP, turn into taman sea. U will see the Cash Converter on your left, if you are coming from sunway. turn in, and drive straight. the shop is about 100m on your left hand side

Kuchai Lama Entrepreneur's Park 鱼头米粉 Fish Head Vermicelli

Was in Kuchai Lama for meeting. The meeting was at 2pm, but this place is notorious for lack of parking lot, so planned to reach this place early. Was lucky to get a parking lot that day. But hey, too early la...was only 1pm, but the meeting at 2 ?

wandering around this area looking for anything good to eat until i spot this eatery place. The place was crowded that day. crowded = good food? i think, if not, also not far off....I decided to try out my luck. walked in, ordered a bowl of fish head vermicelli, with 2 add-on sotong ball (squid ball).

Service was fast. Got my bowl of noodle in less than 5 minutes even though the place is so packed. Tried out... oh... not bad, not bad at all....

Been not eating fish head vermicelli for quite sometime. The reason is hardly can find any good fish head vermicelli in town. Gone were the day of the famous paramount garden fish head vermicelli; and some of the new stalls i tried are selling fish head vermicelli with talapia fish head...yes, talapia...scary.

The good old fish head vermicelli shall only use grouper or red snapper fish head, by which the former is more superior and more expensive. Really really surprise to find out that my bowl of fish head is grouper fish head! and may be the biz is good, the fish head is fresh too!! coupled with the evaporated milk, some pickles, ginger and there u go!

oh ya, that add-on sotong ball. Not bad, not bad at ball. juicy and taste really like sotong..hahaha.

worth a try if you are near this place, kuchai entrepreneur park. Quite easy to find, turn in from jalan kuchai lama at the BHP petrol and go all the way straight.

This place is called 'ah soon fish head mee'

Butterworth - Juru Toll Plaza : Ikan Bawal Goreng

If you happen to be near the Juru Toll Plaza in Butterworth, and u need to entertain your Malay Friend with Halal Food, head to this eatery place.

This place is famous for its Fried Pomfret (or better known as Ikan Bawal Goreng). Finding this place is bit of hide and seek... Take the left turn to AUtocity after the Juru Toll, take the 3 o clock turning at the roundabout in front and go straight until u see MOLEX factory on your right. Take the right turn right in front of the MOLEX. Go all the way straight till dead end and there u are...

A zinc rooftop pondok ; and was rather crowded with customers on my visit. Try their Fried Ikan Bawal and Ayam Goreng.

Well, I would say no bad for Malay food. The ikan bawal is not overcooked. Crispy on the outside while retain the meaty juice. The fried chicken also worth a try.

However, really nothing to shout about... only if u happen to be around that area, and ya, halal food.... :)

Ipoh Beef Noodle 文冬口牛腩面

This beef noodle eatery was used to operate in Bentong New Town, a chinese settlement adjacent to ipoh town; and has been serving superb beef noodle since 20 years back.

Few years back, they moved to town and now operates at 1 corner shoplot next to the demolished Ipoh Octagon Building (八阁楼). It's good and bad that they moved out from Bentong. Good things are, outsider and tourist can't find where bentong is, and the seats were so limited back then. Bad things are, oh, apart from this new shop, they also 'sub' their fish ball and beef noodle to quite a number of other eateries. So, nowadays u might see 文冬口牛腩面 in quite a number of coffee shops in ipoh. Have tried some of them, but the 'original' one is still the one now shifted to next to the Ipoh Octagon building.

This place is famous for the beef noodle and also fish ball. u can order a bowl of mee, with separate bowl of beef intestine. The fish ball (which comes in dry and soup) is fried on the spot.

To me, this is still the best beef noodle u can find in ipoh. However, it is not as good as it used to be. Anyway, i think u won't disappointed.

nice bowl of noodle

Fried Fish Ball

nice bowl of beef stock, beef, beef maw, ligaments?

Direction : quite near the Low Wong Bean Sprout Chicken. Ask for direction to the demolished Ipoh Octagon Building. I think all IPoh mari ppl knows where it is :)

Jade Garden - Chinese Restaurant with Pulse Reading? oh.

This eatery place has become one of my favorite lately. Never heard of it till I saw it on Astro Taste with Jason Program.

What is all this about? oh. U walk into this place, if you like, u can walk to the counter and ask the boss to read your pulse. depending on your body condition, he will then recommend u chinese herbal soup, choose from a selection of 8 to 9 soups available on the menu. Sounds fun, right?

According to chinese, your body can be categorised as heaty, cold, 虚热 (fake heat, haha), 实热(solid heat??, hehehe). sounds fun, and in fact majority of older generation still believe in this. The condition of your body is something you born with. And from time to time, it might change depending on what you eat, your habit and emotion as well. Anyway, I do have faith in Chinese Medicine, mind you.

So, according to the status of your body, the boss/sifu will recommend u the herbal soup that suits u.

The type of soup includes american ginseng for heaty body, 十全大补汤 if you have really weak body and dying for nutrition, Sea horse (ya...the creature u saw on discovery channel) soup to sooth your tired body, 杜仲 soup for backpain and blah blah blah....

Out of curiosity, I get my pulse read by the boss. After reading my pulse, he asked me whether I got dry throat when wake up in the mornin. OMG, how he knows? more accurate than the fortune teller..hehehe. He even advised me on what types of food that I should eat more and those that i have to avoid.

So, if you have time, and around PUDU or Bukit Bintang area, do drop by. At the very least u know what your body status and eat food that suits your body.

Oh. By the way, apart from the nice soup, the cooking also is nice, and cheap.

The pork chop is damn nice. Juicy, tender and cheap. I think this plate cost only RM8

the fried egg with shrimp is also nice.

and this is called '5 colour vege' . presume is good for your health.

Highly recommended for good food and really really affordable price. A meal for two, with 2 soups, pork chop, fried egg with shrimp and '5 color vege' cost only RM35. Where to find in kl??? some more u get free pulse reading?????

Direction : Swiss Garden hotel along Jalan Pudu. Opposite Swiss garden there's Maybank. This eatery place is at the back of maybank. However, if you come from Jalan Pudu, you can't turn into it. U have to travel along Jalan Pudu, then turn into Jalan Bukit Bintang, then turn into jalan Alor, go till the dead end and u'll see a old flat on your left. It's there..

Time : Close on Sunday. Open for Lunch and Dinner

A taste of Ipoh White Coffee - in PJ !!

Ipoh White Coffee!
Where the name 'white coffee' comes from? I don't know. It doesn't look white either.
Heard stories that when roasting coffee beans, butter is used; and that's why :)

In Ipoh town, there are 3 famous coffee shops: 新源隆 (Sun Yin Loong), 长江 & 南香. Good news are : The first two have already opened up new branches in Klang Valley, and u folks coffee lovers no need to drive all the way north just to grab a cup of nice white coffee.

Went to Sun Yin Loong for breakfast a couple of days back. Order a cup of the popular white coffee... em em em. not bad. To me, this white coffee is the asia version of cappucino, but at a faction of the price you pay for the italian's

A surprise here is to find a stall selling Thai Vermicelli Soup Noodle. U might say, well, now there are everywhere.. yes, and no. The lady is really Thai.

Ordered one and tasted, not bad, not bad, resembling the noodle I ate before in Bangkok roadside stall, and the stock tastes good too.

Direction: Located in Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara.
